ALCHERA FOXY LADY - TATUM
24.03.01 - 21.03.07

Even when you have several Great Danes in your life, you know immediately when something is abnormal about one of them.

As soon as I saw Tatum this morning I knew that she was poorly so we went to the vets immediately, I suspected bloat but the usual signs weren't there.
X-Rays were inconclusive but her heart was very weak and racing and her colour was diminishing, the vet administered injections to help the heart, reduce the shock and also to relieve gases, she was tubed but whilst she was more comfortable nothing was really changing.

Whilst she only had a 50/50 chance the only option was to open her up, unfortunately Tatum's abdomen was full of blood which was thought to have come from an aneurism somewhere near the liver, as she stood no chance of recovering we let her go under the anaesthetic.

My sincere thanks must go to the Blackwater Veterinary Practise, to Jenny the vet and Emma the veterinary nurse for all their help in trying to save Tatum and for making her more comfortable during her last few hours.

I cannot tell you how devastating it is to lose one of your "family" they are all so individual and they all have a place in my heart.

Tatum was the ugly duckling that grew into a beautiful swan and so precious being one of my first litter babies.

She was sold but returned and with that she came back with a slight fear of men but she gained confidence from being beside me.

She was sometimes shown by my friend, Tammy Pocock, who gained her Kennel Club Stud Book No and also Best Blue Bitch at the Great Dane Championship show under Bonny Moen, Tatum was a powerful bitch both in mind and body and she needed a good run before going into the ring to get rid of her excess energy but she showed well and on most occasions, moved with power and grace.

She was the best mum ever, Jazmine her first daughter lost her life early so I mated Tatum with Asoud Adonis at Bredwardine and kept Biba.
Tatum was still living with Biba and they were very close as mother and daughter and Tatum was extremely tolerant and loving to her off-spring who has inherited her mother's good looks and temperament.

Tatum had spells indoors sharing the sofa with her own mum, Lulu and was very adaptable with either living in the home or outside in the kennels, she was so undemanding but always waiting for that cuddle and affection.

Tatum was a beautiful Lady to have known and loved, never any trouble and just accepted life as it came.
I will miss her tremendously and I just hope that she is reunited with Jazmine and Lulu at Rainbow Bridge where we will all meet again, sometime in the future.

Rest in Peace my sweetheart, I love you and miss you so very much. xxx
